"I grew up near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. That's the one famous for collapsing back in 1940. I was so fascinated with the story of why the bridge collapsed and started learning more about how some of the biggest engineering breakthroughs have resulted from some of the biggest failures. Bridges are so beautiful, elegant and amazing, I knew I wanted to learn more about them. That's why I became a civil engineer."
